Last month I had viewed online a compelling news report regarding the Mainlands 3 Retirement Community in Tamarac, Florida. The report discussed the homeowner’s dispute with their Association Board. In a nutshell, the Board declared what I would consider ‘mutiny’ and clear nepotism upon its community; with the President and its members not only appointing each other to their respective positions, but also being married to one another! The Board is so insular that the one member, the Secretary who is not related to any other member, had been effectively “locked out” of the Associations’ office and books.
One resident describes living in the community as “every day is hell day.”
Community members are outraged and feel hijacked by their Board. Members argue that there are financial irregularities and other questionable activities going on by the Board. When HOA meetings are called and the Board is questioned yelling, screaming and profanity ensues. Pushed to their edge, the residents signed a petition to vote the Board out, but when addressed at the meeting, the Board interrupts the vote and adjourns the meeting.
Bob Norman, a local South Florida news reporter from Channel 10, did an investigative piece on Mainlands 3 and caught all of the action on video.
